Day 29 – My Favorite Season

I love all the seasons, but Fall is by far my favorite.

Here in Colorado, Fall can be fleeting –sometimes an infinitesimal blip between Summer and Winter — but we do have one, despite the popular saying that Colorado only has two seasons — Summer and Winter. Our Falls, however short, are amazing. I love the warm, comforting colors of fall; I love the crisp air and watching the leaves blow. I love the tastes of fall – pumpkin, squash, cranberries and corn. I enjoy our little garden’s harvest and the smell of the kitchen when there’s stew on the stove and cornbread in the oven, or my husband is cooking up his yearly batch of tomato sauce. And of course, my birthday is in the fall.

I went looking for a quote about Fall, and this one from Stephen King took my breath way. The man’s a master of description.

“But then fall comes, kicking summer out on its treacherous ass as it always does one day sometime after the midpoint of September, it stays awhile like an old friend that you have missed. It settles in the way an old friend will settle into your favorite chair and take out his pipe and light it and then fill the afternoon with stories of places he has been and things he has done since last he saw you.”

Only two more days to go. How are you all doing? Thank you all for encouraging me so far. I love all your comments, and I want to apologize for not being very good at responding to them or commenting on your blogs this past week. It’s been pretty busy around here, and sometimes it’s been a challenge just to post, but I’ve really enjoyed the challenge and I’ve met a few people that I know I will continue to follow after it’s all over.

I have been to Colorado in the fall month (Sept). It was beautiful. I loved the weather and the scenery. In Oklahoma our spring and fall are very short lived too. It’s usually just a mix of summer and winter for a few months. I am very jealous of your maple tree. It is beautiful.
